The Fayetteville Police Department is searching for two women who were caught on video at a local business on Dec. 26, distracting and then stealing an employee’s wallet from her purse.
Department spokesman Mike Whitlow said the incident occurred on Dec. 26 at the Betty’s Fine Collectibles on East Stonewall Ave.
Whitlow said the two women came into the store with two small children.
“One of the women distracted the store employee by asking her about merchandise in another section of the store. When the employee went to show the woman the merchandise, the other woman proceeded behind the counter, took the employee’s wallet from her purse and stuffed down her pants,” Whitlow said.
Whitlow said it appears from surveillance video that a juvenile child was acting as a lookout at the bequest of the adult who took the wallet. The females then left the store with the children, Whitlow added.
The employee’s credit cards were used at several stores that same day including a Walmart in Griffin where the female who had distracted the employee was captured on store surveillance video using several of the credit cards for purchases.
The Fayetteville Police Dept.is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying these two women. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-461-4441.
