Roundabout coming to Coweta intersection

The Georgia Department of Transportation has installed a mini-roundabout at the intersection of Hwy. 16 and Hwy. 54 in Coweta County.

Crews began Monday evening placing Qwick Kurb throughout the intersection which will channel motorists through the mini-roundabout. The new intersection with mini roundabout installed was scheduled to be fully operational Tuesday morning.

Motorists are advised to be alert to changing traffic patterns at the intersection and will be directed through this work zone using a flagger.

Turin, Sharpsburg and surrounding areas in eastern Coweta County have experienced significant population growth in recent years. As a result, there is a need to provide operational efficiencies as traffic moves throughout Coweta County.

This is an interim project to address the immediate need as the Georgia DOT and Coweta County continue to work on the long-term solution for this intersection.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the operational efficiency of the existing intersection of SR 16 and SR 54 and reduce the frequency and severity of crashes at the intersection and approaches.
