Peachtree City Library, in cooperation with the Fayette County Art Collective, is hosting a community photo “tape-up” show that will be on display at the library beginning today and through the month of April. The theme of the event is “In My Element.”
According to tape-up organizer and fine art photographer Donna Rosser, “There are spaces, places, subjects where we find ease and comfort. When one is in his/her element; they’re in the zone.” Photographers of all ages and skill levels are invited to submit one image, a 5×7 or 8.5×11 print (no mats, mounting, frames or plastic sleeves, please), in person March 18 or 19 between 1 and 4 p.m. at the library.

The Georgia Singers Company is presenting the musical production of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” Friday through Sunday, March 18-20, at Sams Auditorium, 205 Lafayette Ave. (Tiger Trail) in Fayetteville.

The Georgia Singers Company is the musical theater arm of the nonprofit group Georgia Singers, Inc. and provides drama classes and opportunity for participating in musical theater for boys and girls ages 8-18. The Robert J. Burch Elementary 6th annual Burch Bear Tracks is today at 8 a.m.and includes Tot Trot, Mile Fun Run, and a 5K race. There will be lots of prizes and fun for the entire family as the school promote health and wellness through fitness. The proceeds support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Burch’s P.E. department. Certified appraiser Valerie Hale will provide two hours of learning, including an informal verbal evaluation of pre-selected items, for program attendees Saturday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Peachtree City Library. Topics to be discussed include the ins and outs of a formal appraisal, how to research items, and a comparison of different types of antiques via PowerPoint slideshow.The program is free and open to the public.

Odyssey Charter School and Odyssey Charter School PTO have announced that two family-friendly events will be held simultaneously today from 10 a.m-4 p.m. at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.
The Southside STEAM Expo and Touch-A-Truck have been organized as separate events by the school for several years, but this is the first time they will be held together at the same location.
Learn about growing vegetables today. “Growing Vegetables from A-Z” is the topic of a class offered by the Fayette County Extension office today from 10 a.m.-noon in the public meeting room of the county administrative complex. There is a $5 fee for materials. Come hear Jennifer Stewart, Master Gardener Extension Volunteer, discuss how to grow vegetables from asparagus to zucchini in your backyard garden. Topics of discussion will include site selection, variety selection, and pest management. This program is designed for the novice gardener.

The Southern Crescent Chorale continues its tradition of supporting youth organizations with a splendid evening of choral music today at 7 p.m. at Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
SCC will be joined by Griffin Choral Arts and Sandy Creek High School Chorus. A wide variety of choral music from Opera chorus to Spirituals will be presented. The Concert will benefit AVPRIDE which is a Youth Leadership Development organization that offers tutoring, mentoring and youth development programs. Admission is free. The Peachtree City SDA Church, located at 4957 Ga. Highway 34 E. in Sharpsburg, will once again host its annual Community Outreach Health Fair and Blood Drive today from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. There will be over 25 exhibitors on site to share helpful information related to your health. There will also be free massages available as well as free diagnostic health testing including blood pressure, glucose checks, and, new this year, kidney disease testing. There is also a free salad bar and door prizes! The American Red Cross will also be on site to take your life-saving blood donations! Make plans now to be there, and be proactive about your health!
The Fayette County Historical Society meets today at its headquarters at 195 Lee Street, Margaret Mitchell Research Center. It will be recognizing Fayette Countians who have been in elected offices for more than 25 years. It starts at 3 p.m. and you do not have to be a member to be present.

The Fayette County Extension office is hosting “Managing Pests Naturally,” a free class today from 6-7:30 p.m. in Suite 210 of the county administrative complex.

J.C. Booth Middle School’s drama department will present “CSI: Neverland” Thursday and Friday, March 24-25, at 7 p.m. at the McIntosh High School auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30.Directed by Deanna McArthur, the show is a take on the hit CBS show “CSI” but with a twist. An elite team of detectives, Murk and Tinkerbell (played by sixth-graders Aiden Choat and Presleigh Pilgrim) set out to find who has killed Peter Pan’s shadow.
Peter Pan (eighth-grader Hunter Banks) teams up with John Darling (eighth-grader Jack Choat) for an adventure that includes encounters with Captain Hook, Mary Poppins, the Lost Boys and many more.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Optimist Club of Peachtree City and the Peachtree City Fire Department is today. Registration will start at 10 a.m. and the hunt will begin at 10:30 a.m. by age groups. The Easter Egg Hunt is free and for children ages 2 through 11. This year we will have a special Easter Egg Hunt for children with food allergies. Come visit with the Easter Bunny and Sparky, the fire dog and have your picture taken with them. We will also have a Sparky Bounce House and a Dinosaur Slide provided The Bounce House. There will be more fun activities and prizes. There will also be a free raffle for The Big Easter Bunnies.
The Peachtree City Fire Department will have some fun “safety” activities along with their Fire Trucks.
The Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Shakerag Knoll Park on McIntosh Trail/Kelly Dr. near the Amphitheater. Bring your own Easter basket or decorate your own Easter bag. Please no pets. The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society’s first Easter Egg Roll is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the McRitchie-Hollis Museum, 74 Jackson Street in Newnan.
There will be egg roll races in 10, an egg hunt on the lawn at 11, and a Southern Arc dance performance at noon. Other planned activities include egg decorating, face painting, a hat contest, story time, a chance to meet the Easter bunny, and more.

Boy Scout Troop 175 will host special speaker Lt. Col. (ret.) Barry Bridger at an event today at 7 p.m. at the PTCUMC multipurpose sanctuary, 225 Robinson Road in Peachtree City.
Bridger will speak to Scouts and their families about time served as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. In 1966 he completed his first combat tour, flying missions in Vietnam. He returned to the United States, advanced to aircraft commander in the F-4 Phantom and began a second tour, again flying missions over Vietnam. During these two tours, he accumulated over 200 combat flying hours and completed more than 70 combat missions over North Vietnam. On Jan. 23, 1967, he was shot down over Son Tay, North Vietnam, by a surface to-air missile. He was subsequently captured by the North Vietnamese and imprisoned until March 1973. Bridger retired in 1984 after 22 years of service in the Air Force. His awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal with V device, Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and Prisoner of War Medal.
The South Metro Rose Society will meet today at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. The Line Creek Civitan Club and Georgia District Civitan Foundation are sponsoring the 11th annual Civitan “Leave No One Behind” golf tournament to benefit community charities supporting developmentally challenged youth and adults. The event is today at 9 a.m. at Braelinn Golf Club, 500 Clubview Drive in Peachtree City.
Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls, refreshments and post-tournament lunch. A two-year use of a 2014 Lexus RX350 SUV is offered by Lexus of South Atlanta and a golf cart is offered by Bulldog Supply of Peachtree City for the hole-in-one contests.
The tournament is a four-person/Ft. Lauderdale scramble format. Entry fee is $100 per player or $350 per team for a four-person team registration if paid before March 15.

Join us today at Huddleston Elementary School for this year’s Huddleston Hustle. The Kids’ Fun Run (.5 mile) begins at 8 a.m. followed by the Kids’ Marathon (1 mile). The 5K race will begin following both of these events. Registration is $12 for the Fun Run, $15 for the Kid’s Marathon and $20 for the 5K event. A no t-shirt option will be $15.
