“Bring One for the Chipper,” today and receive a free tree seedling (while supplies last). Once again, Keep Peachtree City Beautiful and the Rotary Club of Peachtree City will have three locations for Christmas Tree recycling. In addition to the Peachtree City Recycling Center on Hwy 74 S, volunteers from the Rotary Club of Peachtree City will be available at the Kedron Kroger Store (behind the center) and the Peachtree City Home Depot parking lot. Bring your tree, free of lights, tinsel, and ornaments, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The rotary volunteers will be distributing seedlings and accepting donations for local community food banks.

Peachtree City author David A. Sterling will sign copies of his second mystery novel, “The Dream Maker” at the Peachtree City Library from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. “The Dream Maker” is a sequel to the first book in Sterling’s “Bennet Mills Murder Mystery” series, “Do as I Say.” The working title for the third book in the series is, “The Dead Line.” This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Peachtree City Library. The Peachtree City Garden Club will host its monthly meeting at The Bridge Community Center, 225 Willowbend Road in Peachtree City. Jo Phillips, Horticulture Manager at Hills & Dates Estate in LaGrange, will speak on “Heirloom Plants for Southern Gardens” and will discuss the heirloom plants at the Hills & Dales gardens and make recommendations on the best old-fashioned plants for your own Southern garden. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting starts at 10 a.m. Guests are welcome.
If you’ve had trouble trying to stop smoking, the Freedom From SmokingR program can provide you with the skills and support to quit smoking for good. Using a positive behavior approach, the program will help you develop a plan to quit that really works. The six week class begins today and runs through February 11 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, 1255 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville, East Lobby Conference Room. The class meets weekly on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with the exception of week three which has two classes (Tuesday and Thursday). There is a $25 registration fee. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to pne of Dahlonega’s gold mines today at 8 a.m. Travel 200 feet underground and 100 years back in time. Enjoy an underground adventure and hear tales of miners’ struggles to uncover gold deep within large quartz veins. This is a walking trip that has three flights of stairs and two ramps. Fayette Senior Services is sponsoring a trip to Chateau Elan from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The trip leaves from The Gathering Place. Peachtree City. Hop on the bus and join us for and enjoyable and relaxing afternoon at one of Atlanta’s famous wineries. We will be going to Chateau Élan to enjoy a tour of the winery that includes an hour long guided tour and wine tasting to learn more about the production and history of this wine. Fayette County Retired Educators will meet at 10:30 at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. The guest speaker will be Dr. Joseph Barrow, Fayette County Superintendent of Schools. The group is organized as a support and advocacy group for retired educators. The group also keep members up to date on information from TRS and the Georgia Legislature. All Georgia retired educators are invited to become members. As a community service organization, the meetings also serve as a drop off station for items for the Fayette Samaritans and The Honeycomb, a recycling center for supplies for present day teachers, located at LaFayette Education enter. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to Racoon Mountain Caverns today at 7:45 a.m.
This is Tennessee’s highest rated cave located just outside Chattanooga. The cave has over five and half miles of charted area, but new areas are still being discovered. We will take a 45 minute walking tour known as the “Crystal Palace Tour.” The cave stays around 60 degrees year round, so dress accordingly. Fee is $20 per resident; $30 per non-resident. Join us as we go and visit a turn of the century Tudor Revival building where the beloved Margaret Mitchell lived and wrote the famous Gone With the Wind. The Margaret Mitchell House is home to the apartment in which this famous author had her inspiration and maintains the original architectural features. The Friends of the Library book sale is today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fayette County Public Library. Fayetteville. Over 9,000 gently-read books will be available for purchase. Prices range from $.25 for most children’s books to $5 for books by the latest best-selling authors. More than 25 different categories of books will be available and a separate group of tables will be set up for older classics and collectables. All proceeds go to the library for a number of activities including Baby Time, Sing and Play with Stories and Fayette Kids Read. Donations are accepted at the Library anytime. Pancake Saturday is coming! Join the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City today from 7 a.m. to 1p.m., at the McIntosh High School Cafeteria for all the pancakes you can eat. The menu also includes sausage, coffee, milk, and orange juice. Tickets are $6 per person in advance, or $7 at the door. Kids under six eat free. Proceeds from the event benefit many community programs, including funding the DARE program for the Fayette County schools located in Peachtree City. Advance tickets can be purchased from any member of the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City. Members of the Key Clubs at McIntosh High School, Starr’s Mill High School, and Landmark Christian School will also be selling tickets, along with Boy Scout Troop 181.
