The staff of Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services on Wednesday saluted its community partners who help provide a variety of fire safety programs to the community. The recognition was held at the former Rivers Elementary School on Sandy Creek Road.
“Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services provides a variety of fire safety programs to citizens of all ages in our community,” said Chief David Scarbrough. “These programs include educating the dangers of fire to senior citizens, civic groups, homeowners association, those with special needs, Saturday smoke detector program and the successful 3rd grade fire safety program. These programs would not be successful without the generosity of our community partners. The department would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the following contributors to reducing fire related deaths and injury in our community.”
The Kiwanis Club of Fayette County donated smoke detectors for the department fire safety program. These detectors will be installed in homes where the occupant does not have a working detector and is not able to afford one, Scarbrough said.
Home Depot, Group VI and ProMaker Development Group donated smoke detectors that will be used for the Saturday smoke detector program.
The Ronnie Thames Foundation donated hand held fire extinguishers for homeowners use and provided funding for wrapping the departments fire safety education trailer to promote fire safety in the community. The wrapping of the trailer was provided by graphics firm GSI Atlanta, said Scarbrough.
The Go Two Guys provided funding for the 3rd Grade Fire Safety Education Program.
“As a department, one the most important things we do is to prevent the loss of life and property from fire related incidents. The department greatly appreciates the generosity of our community partners in helping us fulfill that mission,” Scarbrough said.
