Dr. Walt Todd, professor at Shorter University of Atlanta, will return to The Carnegie in Newnan from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. to provide another program for the history series, “World War II – Remembering The War”.
Dr. Todd has presented numerous World War II history programs at The Carnegie including: “The Aleutian Islands: The Invasion of Attu”, “Operation Vengeance: The Death of Admiral Yamamoto”, “The Battle of Guadalcanal” and “The Invasion of Japan: The Last Sacrifice?” Well researched and with a passion for history, Dr. Todd provides a lecture series at The Carnegie that includes a PowerPoint presentation along with a display of weapons and memorabilia from World War II.

Chili Challenge Cookoff is today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shakerag Knoll, Peachtree City. Contestants vie to win awards for their chili. Winners selected by voting public in attendance and by judges. Event is open to the public.
The public is invited to help celebrate the United States Marine Corps’ 238th birthday today, starting with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 at the Flat Creek Country Club in Peachtree City.
Marines faithfully celebrate the birth of their Corps (Nov. 10, 1775) throughout the world each year. Locally, the Coweta and Fayette Sergeant Clyde Thomason Medal of Honor Detachment (#1325) of the Marine Corps League has held a birthday ball celebration for members and their guests since their inception four years ago.
This year the detachment would like to invite the public to join them.
The guest speaker will be LtCol David Steele, Commanding Officer of Marine Aircraft Group 49, Detachment Alpha from Robins Air Force Base. LtCol
A highlight of the event is the traditional and ceremonial cutting of the Marine Corps birthday cake with a Marine sword.

The American Cancer Society will host the 11th Annual Cattle Baron’s Ball today at the Atlanta
Regional Airport – Falcon Field.
The Cattle Baron’s Ball is the only country western themed gala in the state of Georgia and has raised more than $1.2 million for the American
Cancer Society.
Guests are encouraged to wear western attire and can purchase “Baron Bucks” at the gala to use towards drinks, games and merchandise at the
ball.

Local community-based youth group, Fayette NAACP Youth Council sponsors its 9th Annual Fashion Show Benefit today at 6 p.m. at This Is It Banquet Hall and Event Center located at 105 McIntorsh Crossing, Fayetteville, to help raise funds for the organization. This year Marshall’s, Rue21 in the Fayetteville Pavilion and Palomas Collection will be exhibitioning their items of clothing at this fashion show. Young men and women will be walking the runway in these garments to showcase each store’s clothing. Talented students from Fayette area schools will also present entertainment for this event. You will experience some great talents presented by gifted artistic young people.The Fayette NAACP Youth Council expect this fashion show to bring in new interests through community exposure and the public to discover the benefits of membership and participation with the organization. The topic will be: “Bulbs for Georgia Gardens.” Dr. Bodie Pennisi, UGA Dept. of Horticulture Associate Professor and Extension Landscape Specialist, will share her insights on utilizing a wide variety of bulbs in the garden in shrub borders, naturalistic plants, mass displays or in containers. Fayette County Retired Educators meets today, Nov.7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center (gym). This is our Scholarship Auction meeting to raise money for a high school senior from one of Fayette County’s schools. FCREA annually gives a $1,500 scholarship to an aspiring educator. The program will feature auctioneer Patty Brown from The Red Belly Rooster Auction House here in Fayetteville. Bring a gift to be auctioned and have fun with us. Fayette County is home to over 1,300 retired educators, and all are welcome to attend our local meetings. Our group welcomes all administrators, teachers, parapros and others who receive their retirement from Teachers Retirement System of Georgia. Retired educators from other counties are also welcome.
