The 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity will feature a “Blessing of the Backpacks” for young people who are resuming school classes.

Families also have been asked to bring filled backpacks to be contributed to Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services of Atlanta, which provides them to needy school-age immigrant children in the area.

Nativity, which began having a single service at 10 a.m. each Sunday early in the summer, will continue on that schedule for the rest of this calendar year.

The church had originally planned to return to two Sunday services beginning this month. But it was decided to stick with the present arrangement, the Rev. Rita Henault, rector, said, because it has been well received by members and also has enabled the parish to reduce costs for utilities.

Sunday school classes will resume Sept. 11.
