Coweta schools to open Friday, Fayette resumes after school activities

The Coweta County School System announced Thursday night that all schools will be open for normal operating hours on Friday, February 14.

Coweta County school bus drivers rode their regular routes Thursday afternoon, to check for any trouble areas. What few were found were addressed with the help of the Coweta County government, said school system spokesman Dean Jackson.

Jackson said Coweta-area power companies have also worked throughout the day and evening to ensure power is available at all schools. The Coweta school system appreciated the cooperation and hard work of the power companies, county government, city governments, emergency management and other Coweta authorities to prepare for a Friday opening.

Fayette County schools announced Friday that all extra-curricular activities scheduled for the weekend will resume as planned.

When I was a kid growing up in Kingsport, Tenn., my next-door neighbor, and a few years older than me, was Lonnie Bailey. He was the coolest guy I knew.
