The Peachtree City Council on Dec. 1 approved a sewer hook-up for the Heritage of Peachtree City personal care apartments on the city’s east side due to its failing septic system. The facility has also requested annexation into the city.

This story is a correction of a story that ran last week that incorrectly stated that Heritage of Peachtree City had been annexed. The facility has requested an annexation into the city and the annexation process is currently underway.

The 3.52-acre property is situated between Ga. Highway 54 and Sumner Road. Located in unincorporated Fayette County, the property is zoned community commercial.

Owned by HCRIX Royal LLC, the site consists of 49 personal care apartments and is accessed by a driveway off Hwy. 54.

The property is currently served by an on-site septic system which is failing and has had capacity issues for a number of years, said Senior Planner David Rast in a Sept. 25 letter.

Heritage representatives in October said the current situation with the septic system consisting of three 1,500-gallon tanks requires that it be pumped every 4-5 days.

“The applicant desires to annex the property into the city limits and then connect to the sanitary sewer line and pump station proposed adjacent to Sumner Road,” Rast said.

Rast said the applicant has stated that there are no plans for expansion or redevelopment on the property, nor or there plans to request a second entrance from Sumner Road.

Also at the meeting, the council approved a $74,903 budget amendment pertaining to wastewater system work at Fire Station No. 84 on the city’s northwest side.

The sum dealt with a change order on the follow-up work done on the project that removed the septic system and tied it into the city sewer system during the past two years. City staff had been negotiating with the contractor to lower the charges for the remaining portion of the project.
