Karts for Kids to benefit orphans in Uganda
Waking Giants—a local movement to combat extreme poverty—is teaming up with Children’s HopeChest to bring a life-changing event to Peachtree City.

Waking Giants invites members of the community to don their winter gear, snuggle into their golf carts, and meet on January 29 at 7 p.m. in front of the Peachtree City Library, where they will create a procession with glow sticks and lights that will drive through Peachtree City and arrive at Melissa and Mark Robertson’s house (306 Landaulet Court in Peachtree City) for prizes, hot chocolate, coffee, and dessert.

“Advocates around the country have hosted a variety of events to launch sponsorships for Children’s HopeChest, from half marathons to dinner parties. When thinking of an event, we wanted to plan something that was uniquely Peachtree City, something that Children’s HopeChest had never seen before and something that residents could get excited about. Nothing says Peachtree City like a line of glowing golf carts,” says Melanie Dale, Peachtree City resident and co-founder of Waking Giants.

At the house, volunteers will have activities for kids while the adults learn about how the community can invest in the lives of orphans in Adecar, Uganda. Each attendee will have the opportunity to sponsor an orphan and have a direct impact in the life of a child. They will also have accessories handmade by Ugandan widows and local Peachtree City artists for sale, and the money raised will pay for the construction of a kitchen, storage, and meeting facility in Adecar.

Through the Karts for Kids Drive, Waking Giants seeks to link the community of Peachtree City, rated as one of the top cities in which to live in one of the top countries in which to live, with the community of Adecar, Uganda, a community with 365 orphans, a population decimated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and little access to food and clean water.

“You can sponsor a community of orphans that saves lives and provides the means for a future. Community-to-community sponsorship is one of the most powerful tools available to redeem orphans. It’s a program that allows anyone’s community to sponsor a group of orphans on the other side of the world,” says Tom Davis, CEO of Children’s HopeChest and author of the new thriller Scared.

Children’s HopeChest is a global orphan ministry committed to transforming the lives of orphaned children worldwide. UN estimates put the world orphan population at over 147 million children. Poverty, war, disease, and AIDS are the primary enemies of children in our world. Children who are robbed of their parents are at-risk for criminal behavior, prostitution, drug abuse, alcoholism, and suicide. Each of the Children’s HopeChest programs attempts to restore wholeness to the brokenness that is orphanhood.

Children’s HopeChest believes that orphans have the greatest chances for success when they are surrounded by loving role models who remind them of their great worth and value in the eyes of God.
