Online form must be filled out, printed before fire is lit; Those without computers must visit fire station
Starting Monday Peachtree City residents will have to go through an extra step to obtain an outdoor burning permit.
The city will keep its outdoor burning advisory available by calling 770-631-2588, ext. 555. But that will be an advisory only about whether outdoor burning will be allowed, officials said.
Those wishing to burn debris outdoors will have to fill out an online form on the city’s website and print it before they are allowed to burn, fire officials said.
The phone message will direct residents to fill out and print the completed form online.
Residents without computers may come by fire station 82 at 105 north Peachtree Parkway for help obtaining a permit on any of the station’s available computers, officials said. If no one is at the station at the time, a printed form will be made available outside the front door near the emergency telephone.
Whether filled out online or not, residents are required to keep their printed copy of the burning permit in case the department must respond to their particular burn site, officials said.
If the department receives a legitimate complaint that a particular outdoor burning site is causing a “serious health concern” a crew may be sent to investigate and address the situation, even perhaps extinguishing the fire if necessary, officials said.
The decision on whether outdoor burning is allowed on a given day has much to do with weather conditions. As such, the fire department’s decision on whether or not to allow burning each day is made after consulting reports from local forecast offices, the Weather Channel and the Georgia Forestry website, officials said.
