Rowland: Being mayor is not complicated; just follow the plan

I am the candidate that best represents the picture of change. Some of the changes made have been necessary, but, there have been too many unnecessary and needless changes.

This change has only led us to the congestion of our roadways, the over-development of our schools, and the creation of vacancies in our commercial and industrial areas. These vacancies are placing us in an endless budget shortfall.

I love the Peachtree City that made my parents want to move, live and retire here. Most people are still happy with Peachtree City, as am I. One of my goals as mayor would be to ensure Peachtree City maintains its friendly, hometown atmosphere.

Happiness and security comes with the understanding that the services you depend on like fire, police, EMS, water and power will be available and dependable. These are the first priorities and must be maintained.

At the state level, [Rep.] Matt Ramsey and [Sen.] Ronnie Chance serve us well and make themselves readily available to their constituents. These two leaders were raised in Fayette County, as was I. They were both elected to office at about my age.

Many past leaders, with whom I speak and who have known me my entire life, are not mere footnotes to the history of Peachtree City. They are my elders and I respect them and what they have accomplished.

The office of mayor that they defined does not have to be complicated. It is clear from our city charter and is reflected by the assigned pay that the duty of mayor is not a full-time job.

Even though we are now considered a metropolitan community, I do not believe the citizens want the mayor sitting in an office just dreaming up new ordinances and regulations that do not coincide with our city’s long-range plans.

I will not try to recreate the fundamentals of our town nor will I allow any council member to overstep their authority in doing so. We have a clear playbook, our city’s comprehensive land use plan. That plan must be followed.

I know being mayor is a thankless job. I believe the council must have good people who understand the principles and fundamentals that make Peachtree City such a special and safe place for all of us to enjoy.

I encourage all of you to vote. Remind your neighbors to vote. I ask that you please support me in my bid to renew our city for another exciting and wonderful 50 years.
