Rise up, PTC walkers! Protect our path right

Citizens of Peachtree City, hear me out! Another of our basic freedoms has been threatened and if we do not take action soon, it will join the long and growing list of lost freedoms.

A lone (hopefully) voice raised his ire in a recent Free Speech, bemoaning the apparent fact that walkers are taking over the city’s paths on Saturdays, strolling idly, power walking, exercising both their limbs and those of their canine companions.

But we know that if we don’t stop his asphalt-roots movement in the bud with one of our own, our freedom to walk the byways of PTC will be lost, perhaps never to be regained.

Some people may think that this one voice does not pose a threat to our basic liberties. But need I remind one and all that many revolutions have started with only one voice. Many innocent beings have been victimized by growing pathswells of insurrection.

Many of us, I am sure, remember the fate of the lovable Snowball in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” who was exiled by the tyrant Napoleon and his henchswine from Manor Farm.

Do we want to find ourselves awakening some morning to the banishment of a gulag such as a mall or The Avenue because we failed to see this threat until it was too late? Do we really want to be exiled to places where the temptation of consumer goods beckons to us without let-up?

Our nation is filled with a long history of resistance to threats, perceived or real, to our freedoms. The Sixties had sit-ins. Our current troubled times have Tea Parties. We, the walkers of PTC, need a movement of our own.

I propose that we organize a walk-in. Show our defiance against those who don’t walk and would run us over!

Carry placards that state “Pedestrians Have the Right of Way” and “Make Walk, Not Ride” and “Toss Carts and Bikes Overboard Into Lake Peachtree.” Our very existence as a walking society is at stake.
