A Peachtree City resident is the winner of the local level American Legion High School oratorical scholarship contest.

Molly Munson was the winner of the American Legion Post 50 contest held at The Commemorative Air Force facility at Falcon Field in Peachtree City. Munson, a senior at Starr’s Mill High School, earned first place which included a cash prize award of $250.00. She will now proceed to the District Contest to be held Feb. 26 in Griffin, Ga.

Each contestant delivered an 8-10 minute prepared oration as well as a 3-5 minute oration on a randomly assigned constitutional topic. Munson impressed the judges with her speech titled The Constitutional Development of Suffrage.

The American Legion Post 50 also awarded second place to Jim McDoniel, 10th grade, of Senoia, Ga. and 3rd place to Alexis Salvanera, 9th grade, of Fayetteville, Ga.  Both 2nd & 3rd place students are from the Soaring Eagles Homeschool Coop.

Congratulations to all the contest entrants for their participation.

Since 1938, The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program has encouraged the nation’s high school students to study the U.S. Constitution and to hone their public speaking skills.
