A 66-year-old Fayetteville man was left unconscious Dec. 12 after being assaulted but not robbed in the parking lot shared by Long Branch Steakhouse and Talbot State Bank on North Glynn Street.

Fayetteville Police spokesman Glenn Askew said the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. when the victim left the restaurant and approched his vehicle near the bank. An unknown subject approached him and began hitting him in the head, said Askew. The victim said he was knocked unconscious, Askew said.

Police arriving at the scene described cuts to the victim’s face and nose, Askew said. Officers found several drops of blood but no other evidence, said Askew. The only description provided by the victim was of a black male approximately 6 feet in height, Askew said.

Askew said that even though the victim was incapacitated, he was not robbed.

Askew said that although it is difficult to predict when an assault might occur, he nonetheless cautioned those out in the community to remain aware of their surroundings and to take precautions in protecting themselves and their belongings.
