The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) announced the 10 winners of the Georgia High School Drawing Competition Feb. 9 in a ceremony at SCAD-Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree St. The winners, one of which is a Fayetteville resident, were awarded scholarships to attend SCAD, SCAD-Atlanta or SCAD-eLearning.

Last fall, SCAD invited Georgia high school educators to submit student artwork to the Georgia High School Drawing Competition. Eighty-five high schools participated this year with approximately 458 entries, more than double the participation of last year.

The statewide competition honors talented visual art students and the art educators who skillfully guide them toward success. The work of the top 50 finalists were featured in a juried exhibition at SCAD-Atlanta Jan. 28–Feb. 9.

The scholarships awarded to the top 10 students range from $1,500 to $5,000 per year and are renewable until completion of a bachelor’s degree (180 quarter hours), as long as the recipient is enrolled and maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Hannah Lee, a student at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Ga., was named a Bronze Award winner for her work entitled “Self Portrait.” The Bronze Award carries a valur of $1,500.
