A Delta Air Lines pilot is flying off with a $1 million Georgia Lottery prize. John Huefner, 54, played Holiday Millionaire Raffle and won a million-dollar top prize.
“It’s very surreal,” said Huefner, a resident of Peachtree City.
Publix Super Market #0546, located at 130 Peachtree East Shopping Center in Peachtree City, sold the lucky ticket.
Huefner and his wife, Penny, have two sons – ages 23 and 18. According to Huefner, he will use his winnings to pay bills and pay off his home mortgage.
Holiday Millionaire Raffle was a limited-time game that gave Georgia Lottery players their best odds ever to win $1 million. The game offered four $1 million prizes, four $100,000 prizes, 20 $10,000 prizes and 1,000 $500 prizes.
The $1 million tickets were purchased in Duluth, Hogansville, Peachtree City and Winder. The $100,000 tickets were purchased in Buford, Douglasville, Macon and Marietta.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
