All’s well that ends well. The same can be said for beginnings. Tyrone’s old library closed its door in December, but the two week wait for the new 9,009 square-foot library on Commerce Drive to open Jan. 2 was worth the wait.

“To come from where we were to this beautiful facility today is just awesome,” said head librarian Julie Digby. “We’re happy and proud to be here. This is something every taxpayer and every citizen in this community can be proud of.”

The library features both children’s and adult wings, a children’s program area and a public computer area, Digby said. A bonus at the new facility is the room to expand over time, she said. The old library closed with a collection of approximately 19,000 books, but on opening day the new library contained nearly 20,000 books with room to house up to 30,000. Still to come are items such as the circulation desk and additional furniture.

The library is located at the end of Commerce Drive and just in front of the Roger Spence Community Center. Commerce Drive can be accessed off Senoia Road in the downtown area across from Triangle Park. Library hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.
