Daniele Contrini (Italy) of Tinkoff Credit Systems broke away from four riders with about seven miles remaining to win the first stage of the 2007 Tour de Georgia, one of North America’s top cycling events. American Doug Ollerenshaw of Health Net presented by Maxxis and Australian Ben Day of Navigators Insurance Cycling team finished second and third, respectively.
