From now through Jan. 15, Georgia Southern University is accepting nominations for the 2007 Golden Award, honoring the teacher or professor who sets the standard in teaching excellence in composition.

Established in 2000, the Golden Award honors the memory of Dorothy Smith Golden, professor emerita of writing and linguistics at Georgia Southern.

The Golden Award winner must have at least five years of experience in composition; demonstrate specific techniques, approaches and qualities that make his or her instruction outstanding; and make a significant contribution to his or her school beyond the classroom. All nominations must be submitted online to https://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted/ssfyc.html.

The award will be presented on Feb. 2, 2007 at the ninth annual Student Success in First-Year Composition Conference, a one-day event that brings together college writing professors and high school English teachers who want to help bridge the gap between high school and college. High school principals, media specialists and counselors are invited to participate in the conference as well.

Conference registration is $60 (including lunch), and early registrations may be made by calling Georgia Southern' Continuing Education Center at 912-681-5551. For more information, contact J. Marie Lutz at [email protected] or 912-871-1763.
