The Community Foundation for Fayette County announced the recipients of its 2006 Competitive Grant Program at its April annual meeting. The Foundation awarded $28,000 from its grant fund to nonprofits serving Fayette County.

The recipients were FACTOR, Fayette Care Clinic, Fayette Senior Services, Fayette Youth Protection Homes, The Joseph Sams School and Real Life Center.

FACTOR, the Fayette Family Connection Partnership Collaborative, used the funding for its Meth Task-force. The task-force is made up of law enforcement, substance abuse treatment providers, service providers and concerned citizens for the purpose of educating the community about the dangers of methamphetamine.

The Fayette Care Clinic is being opened to serve the medically uninsured and underserved populations of Fayette County through compassionate and caring no-cost medical and dental care. The grant will be used to help purchase equipment and supplies. The clinic is to open this spring.

Fayette Senior Services brings together the resources necessary to ensure self-sufficiency, wellness and quality of life for senior citizens. Their grant is being used to help fund the second year of the Voucher Transportation Program. This program provides seniors the freedom of choice in arranging transportation services.

Fayette Youth Protection Homes’ mission is to protect and enrich the lives of children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect. The organization operates a residential group home for school-age children. The Foundation’s grant will be used to help start a privatized foster care program serving children from birth through late adolescence.

The mission of The Joseph Sams School is to educate and develop life skills of children with cognitive, physical or developmental challenges. Funding will support a new after school program called ASPIRES (Authentic Supplemental Programs Including Recreation and Educational Services). The program is unique because students will have the chance to interact with typical peers.

The Real Life Center is an organization that offers multiple programs including financial crisis assistance and budgeting/counseling, job assistance counseling, a clothing closet, a food pantry and an auto repair and donation program. Funding will go to support the auto repair program which helps people make long term changes to their situation by having reliable transportation to obtain and keep jobs.

The Community Foundation for Fayette County is a local fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. With more than $550 million in assets, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta is one of the largest and fastest growing community foundations in the country.
