Toni Watkins, the 16 year old host and producer of “The Toni Watkins Show,” was recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives with a resolution just before the close of the 2006 Legislative session.

Watkins, a senior at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, began her broadcasting career in January of 2006. Giving a voice to youth and young adults, “The Toni Watkins Show” is a forum that has been praised for encouraging meaningful dialogue among students and between parents and children.

The weekly show that broadcasts over Atlanta’s WTJH radio station presents discussion on topics such as teenage pregnancy, incarceration and black males, the impact of hip hop on our future and leadership, and drug use among teenagers.
When asked about her motivation, Watkins stated that she wanted to make a difference in the community and help young people and their parents cope with difficult challenges confronting youth and young adults. So, she spoke with her father about her interest and he said that he would support her if she would assume full responsibility for producing the show. Not knowing exactly what that would entail, she said she would and for the past thirteen weeks “The Toni Watkins Show” has discussed today’s issue with tomorrow’s leaders.

Watkins is an honor student at Fayette County High, is graduating this year and will attend Agnes Scott College, where she will be a math and pre-med major.

The show’s executive producer, Vincent of The Watkins Group says they are considering syndication opportunities for the show and expect “The Toni Watkins Show” to be available nationally by the fall.

“The Toni Watkins Show” currently airs Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. on WTJH 1260AM.
