A multi-use path that will link homes from Grady Avenue in Fayetteville to Horseshoe Circle in unincorporated Fayette County is getting closer to fruition.
The path will be along Beauregard Avenue in Fayetteville, which becomes Redwine Road in the county. It will provide linkage to the Kiwanis baseball field complex and access to downtown Fayetteville for county residents.
The path will link up with a planned sidewalk that will connect with Ga. Highway 85 at the northern end of the path.
Fayette County is in charge of the project, and Group VI was the low bidder with a tab of $414,566 not including contingencies, according to city documents. The city will be paying $88,939 for the project minus a $25,000 contribution from developer Bob Rolader for the Bellemeade subdivision which will also be serviced by the path.
Officials are acquiring the right-of-way for the project in addition to appraising several parcels where easements are necessary. Once that is completed, construction can begin, at some time this fiscal year, according to Fayetteville City Engineer Don Easterbrook.
