The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending denial of a commercial rezoning for property north of Fayette Pavilion off Ga. Highway 85 that is currently zoned for business park use.

The developer for The Promenade project wants 10 acres of the site to be rezoned commercial for retail shops, two restaurants and a bank. The rest of the property would remain zoned business park and developed for office and warehouse uses.

The commission's action is a recommendation only and the rezoning petition will be considered by the city council at a later date.

Land south of the parcel is zoned commercial but to the north the zoning category becomes heavy industrial.

The city's comprehensive plan and future land use map designates this site for business park use.

The commission voted to deny the rezoning at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

The commission also approved a development plan for seven lots for commercial buildings, each about 1 acre in size, on a 13.23-acre tract off Ga. Highway 54 just west of Sandy Creek Road.

The project, Togwatee Village, will include addtional infrastructure to accommodate seven future office buildings.
