The Peachtree City Airport Authority will soon be getting its much-needed hotel-motel tax revenues back.
The payments, which are depended on to fund capital improvements at Falcon Field, were withheld beginning for the month of November after City Attorney Ted Meeker determined there were problems with how the hotel-motel funds were distributed.
Now that the city's Tourism Association has been approved as a nonprofit entity, the hotel-motel tax money can again begin to flow to the airport. Airport Authority chairwoman Cathy Nelmes said the board was "very excited" to learn the situation has basically been resolved.
"It will be nice to get that money so we can do some projects we had been putting off," Nelmes said.
The authority was told the funds would be transferred to the authority within 60 days, Nelmes said. Previously, the authority had no idea how soon the issue would be settled.
The city has kept the hotel-motel tax revenues for the authority put aside, and Nelmes estimates the authority will receive approximately $40,000 for the four months of hotel-motel tax receipts that were missed.
The authority gets 13.3 percent of the city's hotel-motel tax collections through an agreement with the City Council.
