The Peachtree
City Council is scheduled to consider reenacting its multifamily housing
moratorium at its regular meeting Thursday night.
The moratorium
bans any rezoning action for multifamily property and it helps keep some
multifamily projects from ever being proposed, council was told at its
last meeting.
Council is
already facing a request to lift the moratorium for the Katz property
so that John Wieland Homes may build town houses as part of its 350-unit
plan. The town homes were necessary to design a subdivision with more
open spaces, which had been requested by city officials, company representatives
have said.
In other business,
council will discuss the options it has for the paving of Sumner Road.
Originally, the project was halted once it was determined the road's path
would cut down several large trees.
Shrinking the
size of the road would essentially mean the project would lose its state
funding.
Council also
will discuss a staff recommendation to name a new park on the old Leach
Station property after Fire Chief Gerald Reed and a special needs playground
after longtime recreation volunteer Luther Holt.
Reed served
for 25 years as a paid member of the force after three years of service
as a volunteer. He was the Fire Department's second employee.
In a memo to
council, it was recommended that both namings would be appropriate because
of the "exemplary" service Reed and Holt provided over the years.
