finish season swimming strong
The Southside Seals
continued their impressive season with outstanding swims
at the Electric City Masters Invitational Meet in
Anderson, S.C. Four Seals swimmers joined over 40 other
swimmers from the state to form "Team Georgia."
"Team Georgia" took on 14 teams from North and
South Carolina and finished third overall.
Team
president Karol Welling was the outstanding swimmer for
the Seals, scoring points in 10 individual events and
four relay events. Swimming in the women's 35-39 age
group, Welling posted first place finishes in the 100M
breaststroke and the 50M backstroke. Karol scored more
points for "Team Georgia" than any other Seals
swimmer.
Steve
McDonald swam i the men's 40-44 age group and posted his
best times of the season. He placed second in the 100M
breaststroke and fifth in the 50M breaststroke. Steve
Justice swam in the 40-44 age group as well and set new
Georgia State Records in the 50M freestyle, the 50M
backstroke and the 200M backstroke. He swam on two first
place finishing "Team Georgia" relay teams as
well. Ken Sharpe continued to swim well in the men's
45-49 age group. He set a new Georgia State Record in the
50M freestyle.
This meet
brings an end to one of the best years in the history of
the team. The Southside Seals, based out of the Kedron
Aquatic Center in Peachtree City, set a team record medal
count (12) at the Georgia Games, had four members achieve
national qualifying times and set five new Georgia State
Records. The team now sets their sights on the USMS
National Short Course Championships in Indianapolis this
April.
