This may
surprise you, but we are almost midway through the high
school football season. Teams all over the state will be
playing in the fifth game of their ten game season this
Friday and for some, the tension is mounting.
The biggest
game of the week has to be the east Coweta Indians (2-2)
hosting the Griffin Bears (2-2). East Coweta has won two
games in a row and look like the Indians of old. A win
gives the Indians a good edge with most of their hard
games out of the way.
The leader
in Region 4-AAAA, Lovejoy, hosts the McIntosh Chiefs
(1-3) on Friday night. The Chiefs won their first game of
the season last week and will definitely be pumped up
about the game, but there work is cut out for them.
Lovejoy is an incredibly big and strong team, that has
handled some extrordinary competition already. If the
Chiefs keep it close it's a moral victory.
Fayette
County (3-1) travels to Stockbridge (0-4) this week and
if they aren't prepared they may go home with a loss.
Stockbridge is the heartbreak team of 4-AAAA. All of
their games have been close and they have lost twice in
the last minute of the game. Fayette County needs to play
mistake free and re-establish their ground attack. When
the Tigers gain a lot on the ground, the rest of their
game opens up as well.
Our two
4-AAA teams will have their work cut out for them this
week as well. Both Starr's Mill and Sandy Creek will be
celebrating their homecoming this weekend.
The Starr's
Mill Panthers (4-0) host Jonesboro (0-3) at Tiger Stadium
in Fayetteville on Friday. Jonesboro's record is very
misleading. They lost to Forest Park by a small margin
and lost to the other two 4-0 teams in 4-AAA, Mt. Zion,
Jonesboro and Jones County. Starr's mill has executed
well on offense, but there game must jump to a higher
level if they are to contend for the regional
championship.
Sandy Creek
(3-0) is coming off a bye week to host Forest Park (2-2).
The Patriots won their last game against Eagle's Landing
but looked real sloppy while doing it. They have most
likely worked very hard in the off week to correct the
several mistakes they made and should come out sharp
against the Panthers.
There will
be a lot of football left to be played in the next five
weeks, but midway through it looks as if the local boys
are doing quite well.
