PrayUSA!'s honorary co-chairs, Campus Crusade

founders Bill and Vonette Bright and Christian Broadcasting Network

(CBN) founder Pat Robertson, are joining hundreds of America's

Christian leaders in calling for 40 days of fasting and prayer for

revival and spiritual awakening during PrayUSA! '99, February 17

- March 28, Ash Wednesday through Palm Sunday.

On Wednesday, February 17, 1999 participants will begin

synchronized praying through a 40-day prayer calendar for

America's peoples. They will be urged to fast as well as to pray. The

biblical discipline of fasting has seen renewed interest in recent years

as pastors and laypersons alike forgo food for one to 40 days to

develop a more intimate relationship with and deeper dependence upon God.

The need for a national fast stems from a lack of obedience to God

in today's society. Bill Bright recently said, "'There has never been

a greater need in all of history for Christians to fast, pray, repent,

and seek the face of God. We're asking God to send revival to our

nation and the world to enable us to help fulfill the Great Commission.''

PrayUSA! coordinator Eddie Smith said, "Our focus

for PrayUSA! '99 is evangelism. On Easter weekend, the Beyond

'99 project is preparing to mail a gospel booklet to every U.S.

household (125 million). Beginning Easter Sunday, Celebrate Jesus

2000, a partnership of more than 70 denominations and 170

ministries, will initiate 50 days of personal evangelism. It is critical

that PrayUSA! provide a proper prayer foundation for these two

endeavors!"
