"My personal goal," states Pastor

Larry Spencer, "is to see that this church

meets the needs of every family and every member of the Fayette Baptist Church."

The congregation first met in 1972 and it was two years later that the

sancutuary was built.

Pastor Spencer was born in Iowa and grew up in Asheville, N.C. He first felt

the call to the ministry as an 18-year-old and received his education at the

Southland Bible Institute in Kentucky, graduating

in 1968, then on to Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he

received his bachelor's in theology. He is currently halfway through the work

needed to get his Ph. D.

He began his career teaching at Christian schools; was a minister in

Kentucky and Marlyland for 24 years and having met Rev. Darryl Hayes, a minister in Fayette County, was recommended for the pastorate at Fayette Baptist Church as well as the Fayette Christian School, sponsored

The school has approximately 320 students and a staff of 30 teachers. It is for grades kindergarten through 12. The Rev. D. Jay Harlan is the school administrator and can be reached at 770-461-3538.

Pastor Spence has been married for 30 years to his wife Mary Ann and they reared four children: Annette, who teaches first grade; Angie, who lives in Maryland; Deanna, who is a niece and lives in

Maryland; and Steve, who teaches at the church school.

Church services are Sunday morning with Sunday school at 10 a.m., and Sunday worship at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. A Bible study is held each Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. They are located at 152 Longview

Road, off Ga. Highway 314 North and can be reached at 770-461-3539.
