Two Sharpsburg residents were arrested March 20 on burglary charges after a Tyrone officer on patrol noticed suspicious activity at a home under construction on Brayden Drive.

Danny Kelly, 49, and Amanda Greer, 46, were charged with burglary and theft by taking, according to Tyrone Police Department spokesman Philip Nelson.

Nelson added that Kelly was also charged with use of a license plate to conceal the identity of a vehicle.

Nelson said an officer on patrol at 3 a.m. on March 20 saw a vehicle parked near a vacant home that was under construction. The officer observed two people carrying boxes out of the home, Nelson added.

Nelson said the two entered the vehicle and drove off, resulting in the officer conducting a traffic stop.

Kelly and Greer maintained that they were picking up scrap wire from the house, though it was later determined that copper wire inside home was being stripped and removed, said Nelson.

Kelly’s vehicle had the license plate concealed so that the license number could not be seen, Nelson said.
