A breakdown of crime statistics for 2019 provided by the Tyrone Police Department showed a large drop in criminal activity, with Part 1 (serious crimes) down more than 40 percent over 2018 and with a nearly 32 percent decrease in less serious (Part 2) crimes during the same period.
Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, vehicle theft and arson.
During 2019 there were a total of 74 Part 1 crimes, a decrease of 40.32 percent over 2018.
Larceny incidents totaled 51 in 2019, a 48.48 percent decrease from the 99 cases in 2018.
There were three vehicle thefts last year, down 62.50 percent from the eight in 2018.
In 2018, there were 16 reports of burglary, with 2019 totaling 15, a 6.25 percent decrease.
Also in 2019, there were two robberies, two cases of aggravated assault and one case of arson.
In terms of Part 2 crimes, 2018 had 241 cases, while 2019 came with 164, a decrease of 31.95 percent.
The largest number of cases for Part 2 crimes came in the vandalism category, with 2018 bringing 50 cases compared to 45 cases in 2019, a 10 percent decrease.
The second highest number of cases dealt with fraud, with 45 cases in 2018 and 39 in 2019, a 13.3 percent decrease.
Narcotics crimes fell significantly in 2019. There were 74 cases in 2018 and 19 in 2019, a decrease of 74.32 percent.
Forgery and counterfeiting cases rose in 2019 to six. That was up from five cases in 2018.
Also showing an increase in 2019 were weapons charges totaling five in 2019 compared to four in 2018.
In other data from the report, Tyrone officers made 3,912 traffic stops and made 4,098 community contacts, with officers logging 124,784 miles.
