Senoia United Methodist Church and the Senoia Optimist Club have turned their energies to helping the children and youth effected by the latest series of harsh weather.
Taking direction from Manchester First United Methodist Church, the two groups have combined their resources. The Senoia Optimist Club provided the funds to purchase the supplies to fee 400 students at Mountain View Elementary School outside Manchester. The school is gone but all students were receiving free breakfast and lunch due to the poverty level in this particular area.
Senoia UMC members brought the labor force and, along with members of the Optimist Club, made the sandwiches.
Together, the two groups have prepared 662 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, provided 324 “Cuties” (citrus fruit), 14 extra loaves of bread, 247 apples, a large box of grapes, 71 packages of cookies and extra peanut butter.
In addition, due to an unexpected gift from a local hotel, the group took a large quantity of sheets, pillow cases, and duvet covers to help provide bedding for volunteers that will stay overnight.
Rev. Nathaniel Long, pastor of SUMC, members of the church, Tony Bell and others from the Optimist Club traveled to Manchester to deliver the supplies.
