As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum and the Fayette County Historical Society have planned a wonderful day in honor of the Irish roots of Margaret Mitchell on Saturday, March 12.
Beginning at 11 a.m. at the Fayetteville Train Depot, renowned local author and collector Herb Bridges will hold a lecture and presentation on Margaret Mitchell’s early life in Atlanta and the challenges she faced when writing her famous novel, “Gone With the Wind.” Attendees are encouraged to bring one GWTW antique edition, as Mr. Bridges will offer unofficial appraisals of these immediately following the lecture.
Admission for the event is $5 and includes a ticket to enter the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum that same day. Located just a few blocks away from the Depot, the museum will have live Irish music performed by the Celtic Ties beginning at 1 p.m. In addition to the “Gone With the Wind” room exhibit, visitors can speak to an Irish Confederate soldier in the War Between the States room exhibit that day.
Visitors will also receive a discounted lunch offer at the Olde Courthouse Tavern which recently opened on the downtown square, next door to the museum.
The Train Depot is located in Downtown Fayetteville at 250 East Lanier Avenue and the Museum is at 140 West Lanier Avenue, about four blocks away.
