Agatha Alaimo (nee Trimarchi) passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 18, 2018 at Hope Center Memory Care in Georgia.
Agatha was predeceased this past December by her loving husband of 65 years, Louis. She is survived by her daughter Tina (Joseph), and her sons Sal (Wendy), Anthony (Laurie), Tom (Pam), Vinny (Sharelle), Frank (JoAnn), and Louis (Melissa). Agatha is also survived by her 18 grandchildren and 5 1⁄ 2 great grandchildren.
Agatha was born in Manhattan to Antonio and Lucia Trimarchi, both immigrants from Sicily. She is survived by her sister Maria, her brother Vincent, her sister-in-law Maryse, and 7 nieces and nephews. Agatha married Louis in 1952 in New York City and moved to New Jersey in 1956 where they raised their seven children. Agatha and Louis retired to Highland Beach, Florida in 1989 where they lived for 25 years. In 2014, they relocated to Peachtree City, Georgia to be closer to family.
Agatha was a working mom at a time when that was atypical, and she had an especially significant positive impact on the young women in her life. Agatha had a distinguished career managing an international business with her husband Louis. They traveled extensively importing candy and specialty foods from around the world. Agatha later worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for a doctor’s office.
Agatha was very involved in the Catholic Church, serving as President of the Catholic Women’s Club at St. Lucy’s Church in Highland Beach. St. Jude was her patron saint and she was a life-long supporter of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Agatha was also involved in Unico, an Italian American Service Organization, The Italian Club and The Sicilian Club. Agatha loved her family, and she loved to cook and entertain. Her life embodied the word hospitality and strangers soon became friends. She welcomed everyone with the same smile and big heart. There was always room for everyone at her table, which was filled with family and friends and delicious food.
We will celebrate Agatha’s life at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the home of Anthony and Laurie Alaimo in Peachtree City, Ga. to share food and memories.
There will be a funeral mass for Agatha on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Magnificat (2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, N.J. 07405). The mass will be followed by a luncheon.
