The Coweta County Board of Education at its Tuesday meeting unanimously adopted a state-required policy pertaining to individuals eligible to serve on the board or as superintendent.

Described as pertaining to the election of county school board members and persons eligible to serve the school system, the policy reflects the provisions of state law O.C.G.A. 20-02-0051.

The policy states that no person who has an immediate family member that serves on the board after having been elected or appointed after July 1, 2009 or as superintendent, a school principal, assistant principal or school system administrative staff will be eligible to serve on the Coweta BoE provided the family member’s employment with the school system began on or after Jan. 1, 2010.

The policy contains a similar provision for the superintendent of schools.
