In anticipation of possible winter weather later this weekend, Coweta County crews have spent today in preparation, said county public information officer Patricia Palmer.

The National Weather Service Saturday morning was forecasting a winter storm watch from Sunday evening through Monday evening. The storm is expected to begin with snow and transition to freezing rain and sleet sometime Monday. Accumulations of frozen precipitation could range from 3-5 inches.

Palmer said the road department has readied all motor graders and loaded the sand spreader dump trucks for possible use. Additional sand material has been brought in as well. Trucks are gassed up, generators and chain saws are checked and prepared and personnel have been put on notice that they may be needed this weekend, said Palmer.

Palmer said county staff will monitor the weather, then check county roads, intersections and bridges for accumulation of snow and ice and based on findings, crews will respond.

“We are also preparing to keep our 24/7 functions up and running by meeting any needs they may have,” said Palmer. “Any change in the hours or operations of county buildings and offices will be posted on the county website.”
