Fayetteville’s building boom could continue if the City Council Thursday night decides to approve 26 new townhomes on the eastern side of the city.

Brent Scarborough wants to build the townhomes on six acres of land at 740 East Ga. Highway 54. The land is currently zoned R-22 and Scarborough wants the property rezoned to R-THC (Residential Townhouse-Condominium.)

In March, 2016, the Planning Commission discussed the proposal and approved it with three recommendations:

  • Lots 25 & 26 shall be turned into additional green space.
  • Applicant shall install underground detention in place of the proposed detention basin, and the area above the underground detention shall remain designated green space.
  • Applicant shall submit a Neighborhood Development Plan which defines landscaping for open space/amenity areas, cluster mail box station (if required by USPS), floor plans and architectural styles for housing units which shall be approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission as part of the preliminary plat review for said property.

Staff agreed, and also added the stipulation that no more than 26 homes could be built.

In other action, the City Council will hear the progress on the city’s comprehensive plan. Staff is expected to present the final draft at the May 4 meeting and then send it to the Department of Community Affairs for review and then officially adopt the document in June,

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Thursday night at City Hall.
