Four Fayette County students are among those to make the 2016-17 All-State Jazz Ensemble, one of the highest honors a student musician can achieve.
Andrew Dallas of Whitewater High, Steven Lukehart of McIntosh High, Joey Ciancia of McIntosh High, and Roger Callison of Fayette County High are among the 31 students from throughout the state chosen for the ensemble.
Students selected to perform at All-State concerts have competed through several levels of auditions beginning in the Fall of 2016 to qualify at the state level. Only the top student musicians in the state are chosen for the elite ensemble.
Andrew Dallas, an alto saxophone player, is one of just two students selected for this section of the ensemble, and he is also the first ever All-State band participant from Whitewater High. He is under the direction of Jack Jean, director of bands at Whitewater High.
Steven Lukehart and Joey Ciancia, both trumpet players at McIntosh High, are among the five students plus an alternate selected for this section. Steven took second chair and Joey finished in third chair. They are under the direction of Barbara Baker, director of bands at McIntosh High.
Roger Callison of Fayette County High was selected as an alternate for the baritone saxophone section. He is under the director of Dr. Myra Rhoden, director of bands at Fayette County High.
These students will travel to Athens in January to participate in the 2017 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference and perform as a member of the All-State Jazz Ensemble.
