0A group of 30 students from Sandy Creek High assembled 70 meals to help feed in-need families in the community as a kick-off to the 2016 Chick-fil-A Leader Academy.
The students applied for a spot on the leadership team, and were selected by team facilitators Shon Dodson (Air Force JROTC instructor) and Ashley Lott (health and physical education teacher).
The Chick-fil-A Leader Academy is a national high school leadership program that not only teaches students leadership skills, but also empowers students to put their skills into action. This marks the third year the school has participated in the academy.
Throughout the year, students will use the leadership skills they learn to plan and implement service projects each month that address needs within the community. They will also organize a large impact project in the spring.
Although the students will not pack any more meals for the year, Dodson says they were excited to take part in the event.
“They really enjoyed it because they knew they were helping their own community,” he said.
The Chick-fil-A Foundation offers financial support to the impact projects, and local Chick-fil-A franchise operators sponsor the program for the schools in their community, and often serve as mentors to the students involved.
