Beginning German students earn national recognition

Beginning German students at Whitewater High conquered the Level 1 National German Exam administered by the American Association of Teachers of German.

A total of 13 students received awards of gold, silver, bronze and achievement, with two having the top 20 highest scores in the state, and two others with the top 50 highest scores in the state.

McKenzie McManaman and Victoria Stopford each earned a gold award and placed 14th and 19th, respectively, in Georgia.

Hope Gandy and William Clark each received a silver award and placed 39th and 46th, respectively, in Georgia.

John Morris III earned a bronze award, and the following students each earned achievement awards: Anna Agi, Morgan Helmbold, Christina Holder, Hannah Kreuziger, Warren Young, Arabelle Hoffman, Hunter Ochabauer, and Lynsea Long.

A total of 197 students in Georgia took the Level 1 exam. The exam is divided into two sections: Section I assesses listening and viewing and consists of 50 questions, Section II assesses reading and consists of 50 questions. Students have 40 minutes to complete each section. The content of the exam focuses on family, friends, school, and hobbies.

The Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German recognized the students during a honors night held at Georgia Tech in May.
