Join resident and retired educator Audrey Fowler for a book talk and discussion of the works of Harper Lee Monday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Readers & Writers Room at Peachtree City Library.
Literature and reading have always been a passion for Fowler. “When I learned of the discovery and subsequent publication of Harper Lee’s long lost manuscript, ‘Go Set a Watchman,’ I knew I had to reread To Kill a Mockingbird,” she said.
The publication of “Go Set a Watchman” in July touched off a firestorm of controversy, including the issue of whether the manuscript was ever meant to see the light of day. Another controversial book, the memoir “The Mockingbird Next Door” by Marja Mills, offers insight on the media-shy Harper Lee and her sister Alice, which is recommended reading prior to the book talk as well.
Fowler taught at Arnold Elementary School in Jonesboro for 23 years after coming to Georgia in 1991. She began her career as a high school English teacher in a tiny town in upstate New York and taught middle and elementary school in Wilmington, Del. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Lowell State College (now the University of Massachusetts in Lowell) and a master’s degree in teaching and learning from Liberty University.
The Harper Lee book talk is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
