The Fayetteville Police Department will conduct its 12th annual “Christmas with the Police” Thursday, Dec. 10. Several Fayetteville families will be treated to a day of fun, food and gifts.

The families are chosen based on recommendations from the Fayette County Board of Education the Department of Family and Children’s Services and an interview with Fayetteville Police officers.

“Though we wish it were not so, we recognize that some families may not be able to celebrate Christmas without this program and it is our sincere desire to bring the Christmas spirit to families in need,” according to a department spokesperson. “Last year, we provided Christmas presents, dinner and gift certificates to four deserving families with a total of nine children.”

This program is not possible without the support of the Fayetteville business community including the Fayette Civitans, the Fayette Kiwanis, Wal-Mart, Chick-Fil-A, the Red Hat Society, Fayetteville Main Street, the Real Life Store and the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers. There are also many private citizens who make financial donations to the program.

Anyone who may want to contribute to the Christmas with Police program is encouraged to contact Lt. Mike Whitlow at 770-719-4222.
