Millage rates across portions of Fayette and Coweta counties will not increase this year, but the rates in Peachtree City, Senoia, Tyrone and by the boards of education in both counties still amount to a tax increase due to rising property values.
Peachtree City will hold its final meeting on the millage rate on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
Though no millage rate increase is in the offing, the current rate of 6.756 mills will generate an estimated 8.27 percent increase in revenues due to the increase in property values.
Senoia will hold its final public hearing on the millage rate on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers. The City Council is expected to set the millage rate at the current 5.88 mills, foregoing a rollback that equates to .277 mills to generate funds for the required stormwater project.
Tyrone’s millage rate has held steady at 2.889 mills for nearly a decade. The same rate will be applied to the 2015 tax rate but will amount to a tax increase due to an increase in property values in the absence of a rollback. The rollback rate would be 2.626 mills.
The Tyrone Town Council will hold the final public hearing on Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Town Hall.
The Coweta County Board of Education will maintain the millage rate at 18.59 mills. Deciding to forego a rollback after property tax revenue increased, the same millage rate will represent a rate increase of 2.83 mills.
The school board will hold public hearings on Aug. 17 at 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. All hearings will be held at the school system office at 237 Jackson Street in Newnan.
The Fayette County Board of Education will also maintain the millage rate at 20 mills. The 9.52 percent increase in property values represents the equivalent of a 1.739-mill increase.
The school board will hold its final public hearing on Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the school system office at 210 West Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville.
