The Fayette County Public Art Committee is celebrating the completion of the first fire hydrant public art display in county’s history.
The project was open to high school students residing in Fayette County. Each student had to submit an art proposal for the fire hydrant he or she would paint. The Art Committee selected the winning proposals and the young artists began working furiously to complete projects.
“We could not be more pleased with the wonderful pieces of art created by each student and the committee hopes our citizens will drive by and admire the local art,” said Commissioner Steve Brown, Chairman of the Public Art Committee. “Fayette County art instructor Lori Thomas was an invaluable resource for the fire hydrant project and we could not have done it without her assistance.”
The students who participated are listed below along with the address of the fire hydrant(s) they painted.
James Jovin, Aisha Jovin, Saleena Dayani and other Fayette County High School students – all hydrants in the Rolling Brooks subdivision.
Melanie Mikoy of FCHS – 1330 Hwy 92, 212 Flat Creek Trail and 195 Seay Road.
Nick Spearman of FCHS – 1 Tiger Trail.
Erin Treon of Starr’s Mill High School – Hwy. 74 South (at SMHS).
Natalie Dowling of McIntosh High School – Walt Banks Road.
Emily Frazier of Sandy Creek High School – 935 Senoia Road.
