Board accepting applications for vacant seat

The Coweta County Board of Education is looking for candidates interested in filling the vacancy created after District 3 board member Harry Mullins resigned his seat. The person appointed will serve the remainder of Mullins’ unexpired term through December 2018.

School system spokesman Dean Jackson said information packets for those interested in being considered for the seat will be available at the school system office at 237 Jackson Street in Newnan until 5 p.m. on June 11.

The packet includes information about the appointment process and asks for information from prospective appointees, Jackson said. Completed packets will be due back to the board office by 5 p.m. on June 25.

The District 3 seat was vacated by Mullins in April. The school board must appoint a replacement for the district seat for the remainder of the unexpired term, which extends through December, 2018, Jackson said.

The District 3 seat covers portions of northern and central Coweta County. A map of the Coweta Board of Education Districts, provided by Coweta County, can be found linked on the school system’s website at www.cowetaschools.org.

Jackson said the board intends to appoint a new member to the unexpired seat by August.
