Superintendent search so far yields 32 names

The search for the replacement for Fayette County School System Superintendent John DeCotis is well underway. Board members have received applications and are currently vetting those submissions.

Hired in the spring, the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) received, reviewed and screened applications and conducted reference checks on the top candidates. The applications of 32 people interested in the position were forwarded to the school system, said Board of Education Chairman Terri Smith, adding that the applicants are from 15 states across the country.

The GSBA consultant is meeting with the school board to review applications and prepare board members for the interview process. The 32 applications were received by board members last week.

Among other functions, GSBA will also moderate the interviews of top candidates. Subsequent to the interviews, the names and biographical information on as many as three finalists, the customary number of applicants deemed potentially acceptable for hire, will be released 14 days before any final decision to make the appointment.
