Fayette, Coweta schools closed Wednesday

    Fayette County and Coweta County public schools will be closed on Wednesday in anticipation of the winter storm forecast for the area. Fayette announced on its website that schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

    The school syetem advised residents to watch local news outlets and the school system website at www.fcboe.org for updates. Coweta also announced that staff and students are not to report to schools on Wednesday.

    The National Weather Service (www.noaa.gov) issued a winter storm warning for 10 a.m. on Wednesday until 10 a.m. on Thursday. NWS said rain and snow are likely before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, with rain between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., then rain and snow after 4 p.m. The high is forecast to be near 39 degrees.The chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

    New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

    For Wednesday night rain and snow before are expected before 4 a.m., then a chance of snow. A low of around 32 is expected. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
