With little much to do except review missives from the public comment box, the Peachtree City Library Commission is asking the city to consider dissolving it.
Under one suggestion, library oversight would be transferred to the recreation commission who could perhaps appoint one representative to be the library liason, said Library Director Jill Prouty.
That way if the public needs to have any library issues addressed they would still have a venue to do so, Prouty said.
Very few citizens have attended library commission meetings and since the library expansion was completed several years ago, there has been little for the commission to do, Prouty said.
The final decision on the matter rests with the City Council, which created the library commission.
Another reason for dissolving the commission is that many of the current library commission members also serve on the non-profit Peachtree City Library Corporation, which is similar to a “Friends of the Library” group,” Prouty explained.
