Fayette 4-H brings home awards

Fayette County 4-H’ers recently brought home a bevy of awards from a district competition for 5th and 6th grade students.

To prepare for the “District Project Achievement” in Douglasville earlier this month, the 29 participating Fayette County students selected a topic of interest, researched information, wrote a speech, and prepared posters and other visuals to illustrate their speech.

Children from 11 surrounding counties attended with a total of 334 students competing.

Participating 4-H’ers were: Nova Arnold (Dog Care and Training), Donavan Arnold (Computer Information Technology), Joey Beaulieu (Science of Engineering & Mechanics), Shelly Bentley (General Recreation), Kendall Booker (Veterinary Science), Bohdin Bright (Geology), Rayne Brown (Horse), Cara Brownlee (Computer Information Technology), Robert Brownlee (Sports), Fatoumata Diallo (Health), Shanaya Hirani (Health), Zelia Houston (Dog Care and Training), Alex Houston (Wildlife), Trinity Jackson (Workforce Preparation & Career Development), Kamyra Lynch (Clothing and Textiles), Nyla Nelson (Performing Arts – Instrumental), Jared Newson (Workforce Preparation & Career Development), David Niedermeyer (History), Devin Person (Workforce Preparation & Career Development), Jordan Price (Environmental Science), Teja Pulagam (Computer Information Technology), Camden Raynor (Sports), Mateo Roca (Wildlife), Ashley Rubiano (Sports), Elise Russell (Wildlife), Emily Seckinger (General Recreation), Allison Spinney (Geology), Megan Wellons (General Science), and Bryce Zentkovich (Performing Arts – General).

First place winners were Shelly Bentley, Bohdin Bright, Cara Brownlee, Teja Pulagam, Allison Spinney, and Bryce Zentkovich.

Second place winners were Kendall Booker, Shanaya Hirani, Nyla Nelson, Camden Raynor, Elise Russell, and Emily Seckinger.

Third place winners were Nova Arnold, Robert Brownlee, Zelia Houston, Alex Houston, Kamyra Lynch, and David Niedermeyer.

High school 4-H’ers Abby Beaulieu, Katie Mize, Aaron Newson, Caleb Ramirez, Tori Rossi, and Olivia Seckinger attended as teen leaders. Sara Kahley, Kim Toal, Seymone Davis and April Nasworthy attended as Fayette County Extension Staff Members, and Jeff Mellin attended as a 4-H volunteer.
